Organic Wine
Wines, having been developed for thousands of years have relied on a number of different processes, over time this has changed, and with modern technologies and chemicals the process can be sped up and made a lot cheaper, while having a better flavour.Organic wine however is processed from grapes which are grown without the use of synthetic aids such as fertilizers or fungicides. Biodiversity can instead be employed, where vines are grown with the help of living soil, which has healthy amounts of worms and bacteria in it which brings the maximum level of minerals from soil. These vines have a great resistance to disease.
The fact that these vineyards are filled with birds, insects, wild flowers and grasses rather than being adesolate place in which only grapes are grown is another good feature because it is contributing to the environment and creating an idyllic wildlife setting.
The growing of grapes is an originally organic process, however these days not all vineyards are organic, with a lot of them relying on chemicals to grow their crop. Organic food by definition is that which ‘has been produced by farmers with the help of renewable resources and by the conversion of water and soil which enhances the quality of environment for future generations’.
Organic wine has less sulphites added than non-organic wine and therefore those with asthma or those allergic to sulphites can drink organic wine without suffering the negative effects.
Organic wine is monitored and regulated depending on where you are in the world. SO often when wine is imported although it may still be ‘organic’, to what extent and in what way is still questionable.
While organic wine is not as readily available as its non organic counterparts, you can still find it in supermarkets and especially online. Although they are more expensive, they are healthier, you would also be supporting the industry which is an asset to agriculture.
